In today’s episode, I want to introduce you to a very special guest, Christa Black Gifford. Christa. I love her vulnerability, her heart, her bravery, and her desire for every woman to be whole. She is truly an open book. We are creating a safe place to empower women here on the Passionista Podcast. Christa toured as a musician for over a decade and is an incredible singer and songwriter who has worked with the Jonas Brothers, renowned author, and blogger.
Christa went through an early sexual trauma and went through substance abuse, eating disorders, pain, and rejection in the aftermath. She has also gone through tragic infant loss after losing her daughter Goldie. She understands what it is to deal with heart pain, and that pain doesn’t go away with time religion, striving, or denial. She and her husband Luke created the Head to Heart podcast to coach men and women. So today we are diving in and talking about how to recover from pain, to feel again, how to take care of yourself as a woman, and how to appreciate who God made you to be.
Touring as a musician for over a decade with artists like The Jonas Brothers and Michael W. Smith, her songs have sold millions of copies, recorded by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, Kim Walker-Smith of Jesus Culture, Bethel Music, Kari Jobe, and Michael W. Smith. In 2012 and 2013, she had her first #1 hit as a songwriter when the Passions version of One Thing Remains topped the radio charts. Christa has shared the Women of Faith Revolve Tour platform with speakers like Christine Caine and Lisa Bevere, releasing two books, Heart Made Whole and God Loves Ugly, and her articles have been featured in the ‘Best Of’ section on The Huffington Post.
Early sexual trauma and the aftermath that come with it, eating disorders, substance abuse, rejection, betrayal, depression, and losing her infant daughter, Christa’s heart has been smashed repeatedly by the normal punches of life. But after years of dealing with heart-pain incorrectly (by trying to hide it, numb it, quote scripture at it, or ignore it), she discovered that pain doesn’t go away with time, religion, striving, or denial. All inner pain must be faced, embraced, and surrendered into an experience with love.
Her newest work Heart Made Whole (hitting #1 on two categories on Amazon), was written after the death of her daughter Goldie. Christa chronicled her own journey out of the hell of death, teaching the brokenhearted how to take their unhealed pain, dive into their hearts, find God in the midst of brokenness, and see pain transform into greatest strength.
Her podcast Head to Heart doesn’t shy away from tough questions many are afraid to ask, talking candidly about sex, death, addiction, relationships, anger, and the goodness of God in the face of evil. She is passionate about meditation, teaching the benefits of it, how to incorporate it into busy lifestyles, and releases Monday Meditations through Facebook live.
Her newest endeavor, a Master Heart E-course, releases quarterly and is a 6-Week step-by-step education for anyone seeking inner clarity, deep connection with God and themselves, and healing from the past.
She lives in East Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, Lucas; son, Moses Grae Lionheart; daughter, Birdie James; and newest member, Loxley Phoenix.
