If you’ve followed me for any amount of time then you know I talk about all things passion and confidence. I love helping women find themselves by finding a deeper relationship with God and walk out their calling with boldness.
So today, I want to talk about this concept of figuring out what you’re passionate about.
I get a lot of comments and messages from women that say, “I don’t know what I’m passionate about.”
I can’t tell you how many times these messages were from women or young girls who have lost themselves in what their families wanted them to do. They’ve lost themselves in being a wife and mom, and where they have served everyone else’s needs at the expense of their own.
Where they’ve really gotten away from what makes them unique and what makes them come alive. They’ve lost what they’re wired for outside of what everyone else wants them to be, and what everyone else needs them to be.
I think as women it is really common for us to lose ourselves in relationships, and to lose ourselves in the opinions of others and the expectations of others.
We’ve got to begin to believe that our lives are our own and that we have to steward what we’ve been given.
If we can look at ourselves and view our lives from a place of self-love, then we’re going to serve everyone in a way that’s not codependent, and that’s not enabling while still maintaining on a sense of who we are and what we’re passionate about.
Don’t ask what this world needs you to do for it.
What it needs is for you to become a fully alive person who loves God and who is connected to your spiritual gifts and boldly going after the calling and assignment on your life.
Here are a few ways to identify what you’re passionate about:
I want you to look at what makes you angry, what stirs up that righteous justice in you?
What pisses you off?
What fires you up?
May times these are connected to the sphere of influence, and the area of the atmosphere that you’re supposed to be operating in.
Be curious. They will lead you to what you’re passionate about.
What do you love to do?
What are you naturally good at?
Sometimes God will give us natural giftings, where if we steward them, they will lead us to our passion and what makes our soul get light up.
For me, I was naturally good at athletics and I practiced and stewarded that. Being an athlete led me into arenas where I got to really figure out what I was passionate about, and what I learned from my natural giftings, abilities, and stewardship prepared me for what was ahead.
So, what are you naturally good at? What do you like to do?
Is it cooking? Gardening? Writing? Singing? Organizing? Planning events?
What’s the thing you’re just plain good at? Steward it.
What are you drawn to?
What’s something you’ve always wanted to do or been curious about?
Maybe you dabbled in some things or were involved in activities you loved as a child, but you put it on the shelf of life.
The shelf of “I’ve got to be a responsible adult, or that’s just silly, or I don’t have time for hobbies, or I don’t have time for that.” Or, “I’m not the best at it.”
You listened to fear and insecurity and something that was meant to give you life is now collecting dust over on that shelf. You’ve got to get it back off the shelf and get connected to it!
For me that was singing, that was music that was an intimate part of my life that I buried deep down because of pain and trauma. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I took that back off the shelf.
I faced the pain.
I got intimate.
I got vulnerable and wrapped myself up in singing.
Now I’m a worship leader and that’s a part of what makes me come alive. It is a part of who I am, and I get the privilege of leading worship with my husband all over the place.
You’ve got to do the work to get connected to what lights you up. Take action! Go after those things.
If you’re pissed about something look into it.
If you’re curious about it take action, take a class.
If you know you’re naturally good at it steward your gifts with excellence.
